Heater Fan Resistor Location
#1
Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me the specific location of the heater fan resistor location on my 2003 berlingo desire.

I have the spare to replace with but struggling to locate.

Please can anyone help me?

Normally it's "plugged" into the fan housing. On the B9 it's above the accelerator pedal. Might be in the same place on the M59, never had to do it on my earlier vans but have on this one. Have a look above the pedals for now, someone with an M59 will be along at some point if I'm wrong.

Thank you Zion I will have a look as per your reply above the accelerator.

I was told it was on the passenger side behind the glove box.

So just needing to confirm really.

Zion anything particular I need to look for or remove at all?

If you search "heater fan" you will find quite a few posts about this.

It's handily placed in the passenger footwell behind the left hand side panel (from memory).

Mine needs doing again 1st time under warranty, 2nd 5 years ago. I'm putting it off until slightly warmer weather and will be taking passenger seat out as want to do the seat mod at the same time. I'm late 60's and no longer fit in a footwell.

Hi Bikerbaker,

Thank you.

The left panel is that easy enough to remove?

Or do I have to go up and behind the fascia to gain access.

It has to be on the centre console side as it's inserted into the blower housing. Item 2 or 7 below, depending on whether you have AC or not.

Seem to remember it was the left hand trim panel that I removed (ie next to passengers left foot), below the glovebox, don't think I had to remove anything else.

It's not supposed to rain tomorrow and I have the resistor so I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know.

BikerBaker, are you not thinking of the relay? The resistor had to be in the airflow of the fan, how can it be next to the passengers left foot? (With respect.)

It has to be in the fan housing, so it couldn't be on the left side of the passenger footwell of a RHD vehicle. Maybe I'm talking shite but I'd bet my last quid it's not there.

Well I was partly right but the rest was probably age related memory loss.

It all came back as I was swearing at it. I unscrewed the left hand side of the trim panel and wedged it out a bit to aid getting the fan out. Ripped down the felt pad above the foot area (this suffered for years as my son has size 12s) 2 x 6mm hex screws holding the fan in place and dropped the fan.

2 more 6mm hex screws hold the resistor pack in place but rightly or wrongly I took the posi screw that holds the motor and fan into the fixture plus the big plug into the side of the motor, slid the motor and fan out a few mm this gave me the clearance to pull the resistor out. I'm not sure if I removed the fan blades last time?

Bish bosh, all working fine.

What I would say is I could and would never have attempted this last time or this without advice from this forum!
