[Warning Light] M.o.t warning light, cluster question?

Hi
Will my van fail m o t if handbrake, stoplight dosnt light up at all? If it would, if i got a new speedo cluster would it affect the immobiliser, or just the mileage.

Have you looked at the switch on the handbrake first or the wiring from it?

I doubt it'll fail the MOT, phone & ask them first to be sure though?

As above, it may well be the switch by the handbrake, my last M59 had exactly that problem. I spent about an hour fixing it, then a couple of weeks later it stopped working again. The switch is very basic from what I remember, it simply earths a connection to bring the light on.

Thanks for answering, i have now checked and the handbrake light not working at all is a fail. Checked everything including instrument panel to see if it was a bulb but they are led on the board and that bulb looks black. Cheeper to get a second hand instrument panel with simular mileage.
My only concern is would it have to be programmed for imobolizer or is that straight from the ecu?

The switch by the handbrake is working ok?
You can swap the instrument panel, but beware that the mileage displayed is the higher of the Speedo or the BSI, so if you buy a higher mileage instrument panel your displayed mileage will be what was in the instrument panel.
I swapped my 1.6HDi instrument panel without any immo issues. Saskak will be able to confirm.

Yes, if you new cluster has higher mileage than the old one, your car will have the higher mileage of the two. Depends on how much effort you want to put into it, a new cluster can be re-programmed to some lower mileage or look for a lower mileage one.

Immob. is not related/connect to the cluster, so no worries about that.

It doesn't have to be the original lamp to pass the MoT - as long as there is one - a few on Ebay at under£7 - a lot less work too!
