Could someone tell me if there should be a rubber ring inside the rim of the engine oil filler cap. When the cap is tightened on this one it loosens again. I can buy a new cap on ebay for a around a fiver but it doesn't come with any sort of seal. Just wanted to confirm if there should be one. Many thanks
I do not exactly know for the dw8, but on the 1.6HDi there definitely is a rubber ring/seal. I am almost certain there needs to be one for the dw8, otherwise plastic on plastic it will not make a good seal and oil will weep everywhere.
I had a look at mine and, as per saskak's comment, there is a rubber seal. I couldn't see it at first as it seemed to have stuck to the cap, but it lifted off when I prised a screwdriver under it - pic attached.

Thanks for posting that picture to clarify what we thought. There are a load of bits I need from a scrapyard or someone breaking an M49 so will add it to my list
