Any tips for changing the master cylinder and bleeding the brakes?

Did you manage to sort out some sort of bleeder as starting off with a new 'empty' master cylinder can prove challenging as it may not prime, but swapping out the cylinder itself, apart from getting the fluid out first, looks straightforward.

Master cylinder fitted, an easier job than expected but still cant bleed the brakes, vac bleeder doesnt seem to create enough vacuum.
Have bought a pressure bleeder and will try that today, if not successful I will be talking to our local garage.
I have never had this trouble bleeding brakes including other Berlingos that we have owned.
I might have thought that the load sensing valve was playing up but I cannot bleed the fronts either. I have it off the ground all round with axle stands under the rear axle near the hubs so that loading is being simulated. perhaps I need some really heavy weights in the back?

Is it not possible to disconnect the load sensing valve rod and just move the valve to the fully laden position?

Have you bled the master cylinder?
Get someone to press the brake pedal down as you crack open the brake pipes at the master cylinder one at a time, hold a rag / container under the pipes to catch any fluid.

A good idea that but make sure any spillage in that area is thoroughly cleaned up as a sharp-eyed MOT tester may assume the joint is leaking.

I filled the master cylinder before I fitted it. Bled al 4 exit pipes again when I first fitted it.
Problem now sorted though with pressure bleeder but it was a mess job. power washer will be out this afternoon.
Got a lot of air out with the power bleeder but pedal still went to follor but would pump up solid. decided the utomativ brake adjusters werent working properly then realised also that there was a lip on the brake drum, I graound that off then moved the automatic adjuster till the drum was just a good fit. I then rebled the brakes using the 2 person manual system where someone sits inside presses the pedal 6 times anmd holds it down. This got an explosion of air out. the pedal now only goes about 1/3 of the way down and is solid and the hand brake is good. Wheels on and a test drive next.
