So I would have had my van for 3 weeks this Saturday. It has 6 months warranty. I was going to get the timing belt changed this week but held off as they checked it over for me. After getting ‘Engine pressure failure’ message come on a few times the garage said it was a bsi unit problem. They reset it and told me to see how it goes. Well the message came back up again today. They told me I should take it back, and that bsi units cost £1000 (is that right?), but I don’t know what to do. I mean surely the warranty would cover any repairs. My thinking is if I take it back I then have to find a replacement vehicle quickly as I need it for work (self employed), and what’s to say the next vehicle I get wouldn’t have issues, or something even worse? The dealer I got it from was pretty blase and said for me to sort out the warranty myself (or the garage liase with them after diagnosis).
What would you do in my situation? Keep it and get the bsi fixed/replaced? Or ask for money back and try and find something else. I don’t know what to do...

It's a hard decision for sure.. the old sayin' 'who leave the old path for the new....' ...if you are 'sure' that the problem will be solved at the £1000 cost and from then the vehicle will be right, go for it but if you are in doubt.. I don't know. It's hard.

I don’t know that saying I honestly have no idea. He said it’s common on these. So what’s to say another van won’t have the same issue, but possibly after my 6 months warranty has run out. I suppose I’m thinking a van of the kind of age I can afford is going to end up having some sort of issues at some point. I just don’t know if the bsi unit is an awkward one to fix, or if it needs to be replaced if that’ll solve it

Right, I’ve just spoken to the garage again and he’s stumped, also reckons it’s not bsi related now. He reckons it should say ‘engine OIL pressure’ but it doesn’t. It definitely says ‘engine pressure failure - stop engine’. He says he’s never heard of that before and it could be a multitude of things, or not. He said it should log it if it was an engine problem and I should also get warning lights on the dashboard- which I haven’t! There’s no warning lights on the dashboard at all. I’ve googled it to death and literally everything to do with engine pressure mention oil too. I’m sure everyone thinks I’m mad. He said nothing to do with that was logged when he looked at it. He’s told me to pop down again Monday and he’ll pop it on and have a look again but if it doesn’t tell him anything then he doesn’t know what it could be. Anyone have any suggestions? Does the message board actually say oil too, or not? I’m wondering if it’s something as simple as the dealer put the wrong oil in it when they changed it?

If you've only had it for 3 weeks I would be inclined to take it to the dealer and ask for your money back. Sounds like it could be a right lemon! I know that is not want you want to hear being self-employed and needing transport (been there, done that, hired a van for the interim) and look for another one. Out of interest, is the dealer a proper official Citroen dealer or a non-descript one?

I want to find out what it is first though It doesn’t drive like a lemon Not being the bsi is a good thing isn’t it? I’m hoping it could potentially be a sensor or something. The oil level hasn’t budged, no marks on the road where I park my car every day. It’s not a proper Citroen dealer no, can’t afford their prices! The place where I got it have a lot of good reviews and get through a lot of cars/vans. I’ve been keeping my eye on their site in case I need a swap and they’re going every day. It’s a proper warranty that came with it too.
I might pop into the citreon garage on Monday, there is one close by, see what they say. I wouldn’t hire a van to put the dogs in, they’d end up scratching it. I’d have to lose money until I found something else.

They won't be able to do a proper diagnostic without DiagBox, the official Citroen software. Therefore, can't positively rule out the BSI, which is a complex computer that controls all of the non engine functions.
That being said, all error codes coming from the engine (P codes) originate in the engine ECU, not the BSI. So they don't actually know what's going on, or the setup of Citroen vehicles.
DiagBox - needs to be checked with that. Check for a Citroen independent in your area. They should have it, or a dealership.

You don't say where about you are in the country Wilf but if you are in the Midlands you could take your motor along to Mark Lightfoots garage in Ilkeston and let him have a look at it for you and give you an honest opinion. https://www.marklightfoot.co.uk/
He is often on the forum. And as Zion says if the dealer hasn't got DiagBox diagnostics he is working blind. I know what you mean you are torn between returning it and keeping it but with a little bit more info on what is going on with the vehicle it may be an easier decision.
Are we there yet?????

Yeah I’ve found a Citroen dealer that also services and mots in the town next to me so I’ll give them a call tomorrow/Monday. Hopefully can find out what’s going on.

Exactly that, I’d rather not return until I know for sure it’s not worth keeping. I’m down south, just north of London so midlands is a bit far unfortunately. I didn’t realise there was a Citroen dealer in the next town so I’ll get in touch with them and hopefully find out what’s going on.
