Programme out EGR without blanking?
#1
Hello all,
I'm aware that if I blank off my EGR on my 1.6HDI without reprogramming the ECU I'll throw up an error code.
I'm thinking of getting my engine remapped soon. Is it possible to run the van with the EGR mechanically in place, but mapped out until I get round to fitting a blanking plate?
Just thinking it might be worth getting all the ECU work done at once, so that it's ready for when I get round to blanking off the EGR in say 6 months time. Or will I cause some sort of damage?
Completely accept that until I've done the work I obviously won't see any benefit. Just saves me getting the ECU programmed twice.

You need to do a bit more reading about blanking the 1.6HDi, there's lots of info out there, or contact HDI Tuning for advice.
Sorry for being vague but it's now illegal to do what you have in mind.

As it happens, although illegal, many remapping firms will electronically delete the egr without a problem.
I am also on a Mercedes forum, and we have a huge thread about egr deletes. I've done it to my Merc, and it involves fooling the ecu into thinking the egr is operating by wiring in a resistor to the egr/maf circuitry.
Hope that helps.

The M59 throws no EML on when blanked. Only the B9 onward does.

On my 1.6hdi 2008 year I have removed EGR from firmware ECU. 3 years ago. Did not put blanking plate only disconnected wires plug to EGR.
No problems at all. It was professional remove, not the one where only EML light is disabled. That was about 100E . I already have ECU programmer.

It really depends what firmware version is in your ECU. Some firmware allow blanking EGR and not throwing any errors.
You can try to blank EGR and take it for spin. If you don't get errors than you are in luck.
If you get error than you must remove it from firmware ECU.

I agree with Bushwhacker get it replaced.

The engine was designed with it in place for a reason.
