My 2010 B9 XTR had a tailgate spoiler that mounted at top of the tailgate like a horizontal matt black plastic shelf.
It did not prevent or reduce much the road dirt accumulating on the rear window glass or the rear door. The issue is due to the "boxy" shape of the car creating a low pressure area behind the car which sucks in the road and wheel spray.
The tailgate spoiler was made of a thin hard shell of plastic, not soft rubber as some are.
There is no tailgate spoiler fitted on my current 2016 XTR and I'm not thinking about fitting one!
