Fitting longitudinal roof rails to an XL
#1
I am looking at a 2019 flair XL. It doesn’t have longitudinal roof rails. The Citrien garage is saying it will cost £1500 to supply and fit. That seems steep. Does anyone know how easy it is to fit these rails?

These seem to be the right parts https://tradevanaccessories.co.uk/citroe...lwb-black/

Are they? And are they easy to fit?

The advert says "Easy mounting System NO DRILL fixings included in pack"
So I guess there are fixing points on the car.

A wee bit cheaper than the Citroen quote!!!!!!!!!

Make sure to get the crossbars as well. No other vendor has K9-compatible flush bars.

Are you sure the Citroen garage have quoted you correctly?  On my new K9 van the dealer supplied and fitted an 'ulti' Rhino roof rack for £355. It's not a base spec rack (it has a rear roller) and looks like it should be dearer than those rails.

The load rating on those roof bars is not very high. Better to invest in a proper rack if you want to carry anything substantial.
So where does this bit go then ?

Isn't 75 kg the industry standard for a roof rack?

I think the max load on the rack on my M49 is 100kg, though this doesn't mean things will definitely break if you load it more than that - I once loaded 8 (or maybe 10?) 8ft fence posts on it, which would have been around 130-150kg or maybe more, to no ill effect. Though I wouldn't recommend it. (I only did it cos I remembered about the max load after I'd bought the posts). My guess is that if someone starts piling really heavy loads on, it'll be the vehicle roof/pillars that start to deform before the rack does....

The pillars are fine. They are part of the roll cage designed to withstand a rollover without collapsing. The 75 kg limit was the industry agreement to prevent people from raising the center of gravity enough ta cause vehicle instability. For example a Rhino style platform will sleep two or carry big loads safely without damaging the structure in any way.
