Spare wheel location
#11
Got one from a car dismantler. Posted yesterday and arrived today. Good condition and a doddle to fit.

Is this for under the back? Did you have to get it up on a ramp to fit it?

No. Is was easy enough for both me and the cage to slide under the back and hook the cage onto the 2 holes. Then just pop the spare wheel into it, drop the bolt through the hole in the back of the boot, screw on the hook, attach the hook to the cage and wind it up.

Bugger. I couldn't do that with one I fitted to mine. Tried all ways to do it but the hook type ends were at such and angle I couldn't get it through the slots. Had to jack one side up.

Problem with the cage is the possibility of theft of the spare wheel.

I had two spare wheels stolen from underneath the B9 version I used to own while parked in the multi story car park at Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.  These were not alloys, just the plain bog standard wheel. The thieves crwaled underneath and used pliers to bend the hook to which the cage affixes under the rear bumper, and were then able to lower the cage and stweal the wheel.  First thing I knew was the sound of the cage scraping on the ground as I drove off.  As I say this happened twice.

Citroen offered a lock - but that meant drilling a hols through the floor of the boot and if you ever needed to change the spare -realigning the holes in the locking plate was a nightmare.

I gave up on using the multistorys and parked in the open air car parks

How about electrifying the cage with cattle fence gear?

They use bolt croppers in Essex. Can't say who as the word Transit is defamatory apparently. Oops.
