The rear doors should unlock when the driver or passenger door is opened.

That's exactly how mine have always worked. How hard is it to press the remote a second time to open the rear and side doors?
It's so unfair....
To change this, you need to ideally get hold of a Windows 7 32 bit laptop, install DiagBox then connect to the van, get it hooked up and alter the configuration (once you find the central locking section) then save the config, cycle the ignition.

The doors on mine lock whilst driving and then unlock once the drivers door opens, I don't have to press any buttons on the remote, never have

Mine lock on driving off, but the vans have 2 stage locking. Front door and rear doors.
Two buttons too, passenger door and load areas. (On the dash and the key)
You have a car Mike, mines a van. The locking is different.

Just wondering... as a very basic temp fix bodge.
If my doors are not closed, when the locks lock they then unlock again.
So maybe you could tape a piece of card over the lock striker plate?
