Newbie Questions
#1
Went through the manual and the new Berlingo (well new to me, its 2012)  but there are 3 things I've yet to answer.

1) With the ignition turned on the radio shuts down after a while with an economy message on the display. To turn the radio on again I have to start the engine (and then I can turn the engine off). Didn't time how long I get out of it but it may be 15 mins or so. Is this normal, is there a way of overriding it so that with the ignition on the radio remains on ?

2) The lighter socket only works when the engine is running, is this normal ?

3) The cap for a roof bar insert looks like it should turn with a coin but the rubber just twists. See photo. Should this be prised off ? Is there a thread underneath which takes a fitting screw ?

1&2 - you can disable it but you run the risk of draining the battery.

3. Yes, yes. Yes.

1. How would you extend it ?

3. So I gather you're saying you prise the caps offs and presumably they can be popped back in after

Hello Harringtonp.

With regards to the roof bar caps, I have a 2013 berlingo which was fitted with caps, i presume since new.

Late last year I attempted to remove them.

I couldn't pry mine out so ended up resorting to using a set of wire strippers (the ones with two opposing v shaped teeth) beneath the heads to pull the plugs out.

Obviously doing this completely destroyed the top of the cap but the piece that sits into the threads did come out in one piece.

The part number for replacement genuine plugs is 751966 and they cost 37p each.

If you are fitting a roof rack/bars this thread might be useful for you

The bolts mentioned in the above topic are only really suitable for the genuine roof bars, if you are fitting a generic rack clean the M8 threads as much as you can and use standard bolts of appropriate length

Hi Mike, since you mentioned this, can I just ask if you are sure Eco mode can be disabled or the lighter socket can work with engine off in B9?

I would love to turn this annoying "feature" off. I have searched this forum before but have never found a definite answer.

Thanks in advance.

It cannot be turned off, I guarantee that. It can be extended to 30 mins using software called DiagBox but cannot ever be stopped from happening.

All electrical items in the cabin are shut off by the BSI computer when the timer expires after switching off the engine. Default is 15 to 20 mins, this is to protect the battery so it will start next time.

Restarting the engine then shutting off, will reset the eco mode timer. But that's a quick route to a dead battery just to keep the radio on for another 15 mins.

That link is this thread, could you post again the one you intended, thanks ?

And for genuine parts, would anyone have the link to the site where I can enter a part number like 751966 and see the part ?

The orginal radio is shite anyways, so you could go for a aftermarket one.
With the right wiringadapter en steeringwheel interface that works a lot better. Also despite the stupid message on the screen, my stereo would keep playing till the battery runs out
