Put the key in the ignition and turn on till the dash icons all light up (position 2) then press and hold the LOCK button on the remote for at least 10 seconds, there may be a beep from the dash. Then, turn off the ignition, remove the key, shut the door and press LOCK, it should lock as normal (and open again on the buttons of course)

This only links up the central locking. If the key won't start the car, then you have lost or damaged the little black transponder chip in the key body, mounted near the start of the blade inside the casing.

Without that, you cannot start the car. The battery and circuit board are only for the central locking. The black transponder chip (which needs no battery) is only for security authorisation to start the engine.

If you have only replaced the battery the transponder should be in place but it is worth knowing that if you do change the plastic key body the transponder may be separate glued in a little pocket. I made that mistake when I changed my Citroen Relay key case but on our Berlingo B9 it was fixed to the circuit board.

One of he problem I did have with the Berlingo was a bad contact with the battery. It would start the car but not lock it. If you have that issue double check that the battery is up the right way and making a good connection when the unit is clipped together.

Other Problems I had with our Berlingo Keys was a bad solder joint on the battery contact and a bad micro switch. Both of which I managed to repair. You can buy the micro switches on eBay but make sure it is for a Citron same as you have as there are a lot of different switches. Fitting it you need someone who is very good with a small soldering iron.

I was at one point thinking that the car locking receiver unit was at fault so a got myself a transmitter tester and it turned out the both our keys had faults.
