cooling fan
#1
I have a problem with my 2009 hdi with ac , cooling fan won't run with ac or with engine temp. have changed the resistor in the rad, new fan fitted as well. I have 12v to the resistor on the 2 pin plug...I have something like 3v 3v 12v 12v on the smaller plug, I will check over this again and post exact reading. if I pull the temp sensor plug under the air intake in the stat off the gauge goes up to top and stop comes up...no fan. ac no fan. if I bridge the live on the resistor over then fan works on full. is there another sensor or relay that is stopping the fan kicking in one engine temp or ac? thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
Check the relay. In my Berlingo time to time gone.

This manual for the Xsara maybe is useful.

from what I can find there is not relay as such its controlled via the resistor module in the radiator...which I have an input to but no output to fan so im assuming the control via the other 4 pins on the module isn't right in some way?

Is your van a B9 or the M59 as both were built around this time, on the M59 there is a black cover to the left of the rad standing looking at the engine. Behind that are two relays.
Are we there yet????? Huh

its a b9. I've done a fan test today with a diagnostic unit and it says open circuit on both low and high speed?
doing my head in now! the fan was faulty as removed it and powered it up and it didn't work!

sorted.....one Haynes manual later lol
the constant live from the fuse was reading low on pin 3 of small connector to fan resistor. used a power probe to it and there we go! just put a new live feed in and fused it as can't be bothered to find the wiring issue and its only an old work van...anyway just for ref pin 3 was showing about 5v with pin 1 and 2 showing 3.5 volts.
