how to obtain another key
#1

Hello,

Ive just acquired a 2005 Berlingo Multispace which came with one key from which the switch is missing. There are just two holes in the switch casing offering a view of the very dirty PCB. I don't have the "confidential card" either.

1. Is it possible to clone the key?

2. Is it possible to replace the parts missing from the switch? What are the chances of immobilising the vehicle by attempting this?

Thanks!

Does the key start the car? If so, you have an immobiliser chip in there and it can be cloned. You can see it by opening the case, it's a long-ish thin piece of (black?) plastic not attached to the PCB.

If it's not there, you might have a spare non-radio key fob with one in. Again, the tell-tale is that the engine starts.

The cheapest way is to transplant that chip into a key off ebay. Then you can pair the key to your car for the remote locking to work too (this system is different to the immobiliser). There's a procedure for this, I think it's this:

https://www.programyourkeys.com/Citroen_...mming.html

But others will know the procedure.

Otherwise, somewhere like Timpsons can do a fresh key + clone, but iirc they quoted me £150-200 ish quid.

Thanks! but I couldnt understand the linked procedure..."Turn the Ignition ...using the key, without the remote plip attached." What is the plip? is it detachable, or is there a type of key which doesnt have a plip? If mine has a plip, will my first objective be to make a key without a plip, and how do i do that?

Timpsons did me a non remote key for £70 they did not offer the remote option as part of their service.
So where does this bit go then ?

I think the 'plip' is the key with the remote. There is a 'spare' key without a remote with most cars. It sounds like you don't have one.

However, if your key starts the car, it should work for the procedure. I think you just need a key with a valid immobiliser chip for security, so that the car knows it's OK to accept new remotes.

You would still need a new remote key, and you'd need to get it cloned at Timpsons. Again, an eBay key you can then give to Timpsons might save you a few quid. Mine came with no chip at all, so they cloned it from my other key and put it in the remote fob for £30.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you could try an ebay repair kit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174641545877 - this one comes with switches. You might find that you key is already paired and this fix could work.

@ffrenchie You can get remotes at some Timpsons, different branches offer different levels of service. I had to travel a bit further to get to one that could do remotes. Their website explains who can do what and at which branch.
