[Filters & Oil] Service Intervals - Diesel

I just noticed in the Haynes Manual, section 1B on routine diesel maintenance, they recommend various activities at intervals less than stated by Citroen. For example, draining water from the diesel fuel filter is every 12000 for the 1.6, every 5000 for the 1.8 and 1.9 and every 6000 for the 2.0. Citroen says 12500 throughout. Any ideas then folks what Haynes might know about these engines that leads to this contradictory advice. I do mainly long runs and DIY servicing on a 2.0 HDi and the less time I spend underneath it the better, therefore I'm looking to do the Citroen intervals unless I get some horror stories back. Also I'm a bit sensitive at the moment on the subject of diesel contamination, having had the most truly eye-watering repair quote to sort out fuel pump problems on a Renault dci engine, conceivably attributable to fuel filter neglect. And no, I didn't put petrol in it.

For the small cost of parts and time, I would recommend the shorter service intervals. For example, I change my oil and all filters at 6000 miles at a total cost of £45, dealers and manufacturers of all vehicles extend service periods to the maximum to cut down on supposed "inconvenience" to the customer. I however am a sceptic, and have seen some truly awful vehicles that have "Full service history", on previous jobs. Citroen don't even have service intervals for renewing gearbox oil, what does that tell you??

I'm with Adam on this. Can't change oil etc too often.

Interestingly I've never found anything untoward in my fuel filter, no water or anything

Not many cars go, only ones I know of is the m class bmws.

I'd do oil every 15k kms, both oil and air filter

Coolant, brake fluid, every 2 years

Drain water in fuel filter every service and replace every 2nd or 3rd depending on how much water your picking up.
