1.6HDi at 101k with good history - hesitation (and 100k report)
#1
Sorry haven't posted for two years! A sign of a good car... which I've owned from 24k up to now. Its a 56 plate 92bhp Partner Multispace. Oh, if I could find another good one...

Its had servicing at one year/12k all its life by a Citroen mechanic, so I think its had the correct oil. And it's not thrashed. No problems other than it always feeling momentarily lumpy first thing. A few seconds only and then its forgotten.

I recently decided to mark its 100k, and a couple of occasional "hesitations" - but dropping the undertray, having a clean up, cleaning out the EGR, replacing the fuel filter and replacing the gasket (was the wrong way round from new, presumably if that makes a difference!) and doing a rigorous oil change and trying to flush a little of the remaining black oil out.
Noticed:
1. egr bolt loose and some minor blowing from the gasketed joint
2. my front-most air intake has been missing for some while, so it takes from the pipe that finishes just north of the MAF area
3. even pouring some new oil down into the oil filter housing and through the filler, it didnt dislodge many of the dark dregs in the engine, as it was black again in a few miles.
4. MAF looked clean

I also decided to remove the loose-ish REAR air intake (from the airbox north) and try putting an aluminium flexi 75mm tubing (the concertina stuff) from the airbox to the collector in the N/S inner wing.

So what did I notice?
1. the hesitancy seemed a tad worse on a long motorway trip after the works. I wonder if I have slightly overfilled oil, but other than that, I've just done a brimful and the mpg was best ever.... 64.3mpg over 170 miles or so. I had 56ish regularly before the EGR clean. I've just replaced the flexi tubing with the original loose PSA item, and no sign of blips. I also gave it a good hard accelerate in 3rd a couple of times, which I never do normally, ever.

Is it possible that the car was relishing in the new air and it was becoming a bit lean - i.e. does the computer need to relearn the air situation when a major change like this is made?

I'm aware of the issues of electrical glitches and was going to
1. find and twiddle the brake switch
2. find and twiddle the accelerator switch, to make sure connections not becoming intermittent.. and
3. tighten the injectors (7mm allen key was suggested?)

Is there anything else I should do or check to keep this going for another 100k? I'm aware that its getting into the territory of item failure, and anything preventative I can do will help it remain the main family car. I was intending to shorten the oil change interval (could i flush with something, or add a bit of diesel to the oil shortly before draining?) and start my own servicing now. I was wondering about whether the filter would need doing if I did an interim change... or whether doing 100 miles on some cheap oil would act as a flush.

Should I also be thinking of a gearbox oil change?

Has the cambelt been changed?
7mm allen key for injector clamps.
Changing the gearbox oil will probably make changing gear easier/smoother.

All diesel engines oil turns black within a few miles of being changed .

Thanks. Yes, cambelt done at 70k so not worried for a while. I'll embark on gearbox. Any issues for the uninitiated?
I think the hesitancy has gone with the original half inlet pipe put back. So may check that for a few weeks and seek to swap round again and see if it does it again.
