Adding a 12v socket in the boot
#1
Hi

I'm planning a roadtrip this summer and would love to fit a 12v socket in the back so the kids can charge their gadgets.

Seems there is a spot for it already marked here

I removed the side panel, hoping to find wires for it, but all I see is this

Anyone know if any of those wires are good for wiring up to a 12v socket?

Super easy

Standing at the back of the car there's a rubber grommet going around the boot opening. The side panel is tucked behind this grommet, so begin by getting the panel free from that (tucking the grommet behind the panel).
Then you have pry the panel loose along the top. It's all about using force at this stage  Smile  There are four clips along the top. I got the one closest to me first, then I started from the other side and got the rest. There are also two at the farther side of the panel, towards the front of the car. Finally there is a while clip closest to you, half way down the panel that you can't just pull straight out. So when all four along the top, and the two towards the front of the car are free you have to lift the panel up to release the final clip.

Here's a photo of the white clip. You can also see how it's fastened and that you have to lift up to release it.

Absolutely Smile

And I was wrong - there are three clips towards the front of the car, not just two as I first said.

Forgot to mention that there is a plastic screw you have to remove hidden inside the plastic compartment

No. There is nothing there. I guess they only pulled the wiring out there for cars that actually have the socket.

Maybe try the left side? I think there are some wires needed for the trailer hitch..

I have a 2013 Berlingo with Power socket in the location shown in your first picture. The wires to it are green and green with yellow. Have you looked behind the thin white foam through which the wiring disappears?

Thanks for your reply Tony. I did look behind the white foam earlier today. It was pretty empty. Just wires for the lights I think.

I do see a green-and-yellow wire there, for negative. And one of the wires must be to my rear lights, that are always one. But is it a really bad idea to power a 12 v socket on the wires for the rear lights?
