Strange noise after timing belt and water pump changed.
#1
Had the timing belt and associated bits changed and all was running OK, local and motorway/dual carriageway10 miles and another 10 miles of urban roads .

After a week or so I noticed this wind like sound, checked all the windows, roof rails mirrors and adjusted the aerial and all ok but still the sound but only once everything was nicely warmed up.

Did a trip to South Yorkshire (90 miles each way) and I noticed this wind like noise got worse as the journey progressed. 3 days later on the return journey the same but this time a lot louder and the last 20 miles I was getting concerned and it was now dark.

Was I relieved to get home.

Thought I'd try a few things whilst it's nice and hot, pressing the accelerator when it got to 1400rpm the noise appears (a bit like if you purse your lips and blow but not whistling) with a slight change in level.

Go above and it disappears then comes back in at about 2500rpm and is loud. This is static.

Took it back to the garage who had a quick look , reseated timing belt, but couldn't be booked in till yesterday his advice was ok to drive locally but not the 20 mile journey.

They have put a new belt and pump on and it's see how it goes, I will be doing a 12 mile each way journey toning to give it a gentle 50mph drive .

Garage are thinking it was the new pump but all seemed ok with it.

Any ideas ?

thanks

Hi

When the replaced timing belt was correct you do not have any notice. Nothing, no noise no vibration. Same behaviour than before the change.

When it was changed it was perfect for a week or so and then started to creep in, a lowish wind noise and progressively got worse the the 180 mile journey to Yorkshire back and it was mega loud.

Going to do a test run on small A roads in a minute, 24 miles round journey. see how it goes
