Milk Coffee in the Dashboard Air Vents :(
#1
Hello everyone!
This is my first post here, I am researching for a friend of mine who isn't so mechanically savvy, so this will likely be my project to help her out.

Yesterday, a milky canned coffee from the gas station was left on the dashboard, fell over, and nearly the entire can poured directly down into the main defrosting air vent that is beneath the windshield hahahaha. Oh man, tragic and horrible but also hilarious that the whole can poured directly down the vent. Everything functions fine but now there is a coffee down there that will likely mold during these 35°+ days in Berlin.

2014 Berlingo (diesel)

1.Is it difficult to get to the disassemble the dashboard to get to the air hoses and clean them out?
2.Is it possible to partially disassemble the dashboard to access the vents without making the project too crazy?
3.Does anyone have a link to a detailed repair manual?
4.Is there an filter deep in the air system that likely needs to be replaced? Perhaps there is a "catch" in the venting system like in a sink to capture things that could fall down the dashboard...
5. Is it worth it?

... I wish we could just pour a gallon on water down the drain to chase it but thats likely not an option.

Im sure it wont be too big of a hassle, but its difficult to get too involved with big projects that could take days or weeks when you have to work in the Berlin streets without facilities or securities to leave the project open.

Thanks for your help and input!!!

Peace!

clean what you can and leave the rest alone, maybe take a blower (air compressor) and blow away all the remains

the problem is that about 90% of it went directly down the vertical vent at the back of the dashboard

#3 on the diagram i attached, I am aware that it is not the same model but its all i could find so far.

it seems like it needs to come part.... do you know where to find a repair manual pdf that outlines the dashboard disassembly?

Stick the heating on to hot, smell the coffee, and let it dry out. Surely much of it will have migrated downwards into the footwell and it shouldn't kill anyone there. Probably not even real milk in the can.

If it does start to smell there are pet products which will deal with it. Get one that includes enzymes.

I can't remember the name a it was a few years ago

A friend spilt a whole bottle of milk down the rear vents and it really started to smell, poured the stuff in and let it do its business, smell gone.

Not sure if this is available in Germany, but I’ve had great success with this product, both dealing with spilt sour milk in my old Skoda, and getting the dog stink of my new (to me) B9 XTR.

Maybe an "auto bomb" or "car bomb" would kill off anything likely to actually go mouldy.

One tip - despite the claims, they leave a strong unpleasant chemically smell for a week or so.

Hey Everyone!!!
Sorry, I am not sure why my email wasnt sending me notifications of your replys so its been a long time.
Thank you to all the suggestions and advice, we couldnt find time through the week to tackle the projects, so the car sat for a few days in the heat. To our surprise, when we opened the car again everything smelled totally normal and ok! I guess it wasnt real milk hahaha, and most of it must have drained out through the floor board drainage system.

Thanks again for all the help, you all are a great community!

you can use the car bomb that they use for ac re fresh or there is another product with a tube on it that fills the vents with a foam and does same job but tougher
