rumble noise/vibration
#1
Sad
anyone help please, have a 2007 berlingo 1.6hdi, it has this rather annoying vibration when in lower gears or going from 3 to 4th at low revs, its not gearbox related its more of a vibration noise, not knocking like a worn antiroll bar bush etc, its recently just had outer tie rod ends changed on the steering rack and rear axle bushes changed as worn, the van will drive lovely anywhere but its really hard to explain, just after some advice as its booked in again to a garage to be checked over, the last garage did not find any engine mounts or suspension mounts worn or loose, its like a sound/rattle like something is loose somewhere!

Have a look at the aluminium heat shields around the turbo. With age the aluminium becomes brittle and tend to break from their mounting points and vibrate a lot. It is a 3-piece set, front, upper and at the back of the exhaust. Move them with hand and see if they move.
Air filter box also becomes loose, but I doubt you will be able to hear that from inside the cabin.

Hi.

Thanks for your reply, checked heatshield and not that, its more noticable than that only going over uneven or rough ground or road, checked front brake calipers and slight play but all bolts tight, its as though something is not tight enough or loose.
driving me mad as unable to find it at the moment! air filter and top plastics are also ok.
