Slight Crunch 4th Gear
#1
Hi all,

Recently bought a 2006 1.9d Berlingo Van with the DW8B engine, it had an ever so slight crunch when going into 4th gear, it does go in fine and drives fine in 4th, does anyone know what this could be?

Maybe worn synchro - live with it !

Try a slower change / gear selection.

Try new gear oil ( synthetic ) as well.

As above.
From third,  declutch as you go into neutral, pause, engage clutch and then move into 4th it may help to 'manually' synchronise the change. For changes from 5th to 4th then double-de-clutch, as though you're driving a racer - or an old banger that has no synchro, as I do!
With oils, don't put in any additives as they will make the synchros worse as they rely on a degree of friction.
Good luck!
