Dog guards and luggage dividers
#1
Just taken delivery of a 2020 Flair, has anyone had any experience with dog guard and or boot dividers? Considering everything from the generic dog guard you see on amazon, or the more custom vehicle specific guards too.

I've got a boot protector with a rear flap on order already, planning to try to make a baton for the flap that slots into the parcel shelf sockets as a tailgate to stop the dogs rushing out when I open the back, but I know some systems have a tailgate built in.

Any advice or suppliers are welcome. Travall don't do the K9, have no plans for it, and are very pricy too.

I bought a genuine Citroen metal dog guard (about £150) for my new Berlingo XTR. I test fitted it yesterday. It already has access flaps to the roof mounting points otherwise you will have to buy the fitting kit and cut the trim to fit them. Modutop versions have different kits.

For my vehicle the basic procedure is:
Fit the left and right stub brackets loosely to the roof mounting points;
Fit the metal dog grill to the stub brackets;
Tighten the roof mounting points;
Loop left and right retention straps through the dog grill to the forward pair of floor load anchor points and tighten the straps. Job done except for 3 short foam strips to fit between the each seat back and the grill lower edge.

Allow and hour to fit and you need an 8mm spanner and 13mm socket drive

It is very fiddly to fit the metal brackets to the top mounting points as I have the modutop fitted and access is restricted by the rear roof box when the guard is in position. The bottom of the grill seems to rest on the boot side panel trims by 'C' pillar and is strapped to the forward floor cargo rings. I'm concerned about it resting on the trim as I think it might wear through it in time or at the very least mark it badly. I have cut black foam rubber (22mm pipe insulation) strips to insert between the metal cage at the points it rests on the trim.

Puttings these negatives aside I think it the best solution to injuries from items flying forward from the boot in an accident. Even a small dog could kill or severely injure an occupant quite apart from getting its own injuries, so better be safe and get a proper metal grill.

Just to add I bought plastic 15mm square blanking plugs off eBey to fit the dog guard open ended square tubing that rest on the boot side panels, resulting in a much better finish to the guard.

I wonder why on earth for the sake of a couple of pennies Citroen doesn't provide these?
