Wondering whether anyone has rebuilt there turbocharger with a melett refurb kit or something similar. Doesn’t seem to hard from videos on YouTube as long as nothing catastrophic has happened.

What BHP is your engine?
The higher power (130BHP?) engines have a VNT turbo which is a little more complicated. If you want Melett parts, ask London Turbos for a price. IIRC Saskak replaced the turbo cartridge on his 1.6 M59.

London turbos have nothing listed on there site. Do you have to speak to them to organise?

As cancunia mentioned I replaced the turbo cartridge on the 90bhp M59, not quite a rebuild, but fairly straight forward. The cartridge was from nerings. That was my process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7S0qDBo314
For the price of the calibrated cartridge (£80) it was less involved than a proper rebuild.

Thanks for the insight. Looks a good way of doing it . Not had van long. Can the type of turbo be derived from the engine number ? Just like to find out make and type to be able to see what’s available for it. Good vid . Did you make it or the vid that you followed.

Not sure where I got the idea of 130 from.. 110 BHP will probably have the VNT turbo. The turbo model will be stamped on the body of the turbo, it will probably be GT1544V 753420-x
The main difference between the 70/90 BHP & the 110BHP turbo is the VNT nozzle ring to adjust the boost.
I don't have shares in London Turbos, but have used them and found the service to be good & quick. They don't list the parts as Melett, but that's what I got when I asked them about the make of the parts they'd supply. To be sure of what they'll send, you will need to ask. Here's an example.

Nerings, as used by Saskak also have a good rep and do/did sell a refurbed exchange, as do London Turbos.

It is my own video, but it is for the 90bhp. Some of the things will be the same, but I cannot comment for the VNT one.
