Hi. Wondering if I've missed something. I still have issues with deposits of thick black oil accumulating in the header tank after replacing oil cooler checking head for warp and changing head gasket.
Just like before the engine runs fine.
Could there be another way for a small amount of oil to get into coolant that i'm missing.
Is a real pain skimming the oil out of the header tank every week.
If the engine had wet liners I would think this was the cause.
Thanks for any advice.

hi
weve had ours (1.9d) over 5 years...it had a head gasket done before we bought it...header tank has always been oily...ive drained an flushed a few times over the years, but berty always starts an runs fine so ive given up worrying about it. currently doing somerset to sussex and back once a fortnight with no problems.
just noticed i joined the forum in 2012...so over 5 is nearer 9

I think the oil cooler change could be a red-herring. Thats more than likely a gasket failing. Oil shouldnt be in the coolent for any other reason than a oil gallery mixing with a water gallery.

Thanks for replies on this. Car is in every day use with my sister so will see what happens over a period of time. Really took my time over head gasket so I am surprised that oil is still passing across there. I wondered if part of the casting in the head or block might have become porous. If worst comes to worst I will swap my 1.8 petrol berlingo for this one as I don't drive nearly as far as she does and can live with this problem.

Just to update. Still get oil on the bottom of the header tank cap which I wipe off now and then and very thin film inside header tank but very little. I hope this is just residual oil from old head gasket leak. I think it's ok

Those dishwasher tablets are quite good for removing the residual oil in header tank. Pop in a couple run it for a while and then flush the system.
