COMM for multi-function display
#1
Hi!

I've fitted an MFD to my 2004 2.0 HDi and it's working but I obviously can't use the menu, as the car still has the original COMM unit with the incorrect wiper stalk (with moulded end).

I've scanned the forums but can't find an answer to the question: Specifically which COMM do I need to source? There are lots out there with the correct stalk with button on the end - just not sure which I should be buying.

I've been offered the one in the pictures (attached) from a Peugeot 407 but not sure if it'll work?

Thanks, as always, for your wisdom!

Kind regards,

James

AFAIK if the connections are the same it would be OK to use/swap.
If I were you I would get the serial number of your current one and compare the connections, easiest way is to use the serial number to see the connections in ebay and go from there. Not too sure for the 2004 2L HDi, but you can get the plastic shroud around (2-parter; top and bottom) the COM unit by undoing the self-tapping screws at the bottom and the rest is carefully taking it apart, they are simple plastic clips. This is for the 2007 1.6HDi, so it might be a tad different with the 2004 2L HDi.

Is the MFD you fitted is a 3 line display (MFD2  / EMF-II) ?

It's often possible to pop out the end of the stalk and replace with the button. Can you post a picture of your current wiper stalk end?

Your MFD may need to be configured via Lexia to enable the various trip functions, some are already programmed, some not.

The end of the stalk is one-piece moulded, unfortunately. So if
I can’t replace just the stalk, it seems easier to just replace the entire COMM unit. Just need to find out which one I need - there are so many on eBay, it’s impossible to work out which!

The MFD is from a 2003 C5 and I have Lexia so can activate it once I’ve found the correct part.

That's unfortunate! In that case, like you say it'll be best to get another COMM unit. There is a post somewhere on the Peugeot forum  (IIRC) about wiper stalks for trip computers, but it was a few years ago that I saw it, it may be linked in one of the MFD or trip computer threads on here. You could try looking on catcar.info for the COMM unit for a 2.0HDi, it may list several options with part numbers. Beyond that, as Saskak says, you could take a chance if the connector plugs are the same?

Thank you! It does seem like this is going to take a bit of trial and error, for sure. All just so I can see what mpg I’m getting!!! Still… it’ll be useful to have. Next job will be to fit the temperature sensor (which i bought last week). There is a brilliant thread on here about it, with some very handy pictures so I’ll be following that advice closely.

Did you find the thread about the BSI firmware version for the temp sensor?

For the mpg/trip computer, you can activate the trip computer via Diagbox/Lexia so to have the reading on the screen and operate from the two buttons on the MFD. Not too convenient, but it should work. The mpg reading is more than optimistic at least on my car. You can also activate the temp sensor and if it is not present it will display -- C or F.

catcar.info as cancunia mentioned will give you all the COM units that are compatible and you need to choose which one you need according to a variety of options, e.g. auto headlights, auto wash/wipe, your DAM number (listed on the driver's door pillar).

I didn’t know you could operate the trip computer using the two buttons on the display. When I push them, nothing happens (except for being able to change the language, time, date etc).

It does tell me information about my faulty ABS sensors, doors open etc. though!

I thought one can, although since I installled the end stalk button I have not tried it with the buttons and memory might be a bit hazy. In any case, in order to see the mpg/trip computer you need to activate this in Diagbox/Lexia.
