I've just received the renewal for my multi-vehicle insurance (the Bingo 2.0 HDi Desire plus my trusty old VW T4 Transporter) and it's come out at £535. Last year for the T4 alone it was just £178.47. I then ran some price comparisons for the Bingo alone, and the best I got was £364.71 from Sheila's Wheels and esure. Is this a representative figure? If so, what makes these cars so expensive to insure? And lastly, does anyone know an insurer that can provide a more sensible quote?
Thanks in advance...

I had a good deal with Direct line for my van
30k a year policy was just over £200
Until earlier in the year when a bloke towing a caravan crashed into the side of me almost flipping the van - ended up being declared as a partial fault due to the worn out lines on the road which i will add Highways England have since repainted!
Insurance is now around just under £600 a year

Just got a quote from Co-op insurance, and it came out at £560! So it's clearly something to do with me or my postcode. Tree's comment probably is the reason. My previous car (a ratty old Ford Focus) was written off when I was t-boned by someone pulling out of a side road. Fault for the accident was his, but it seems that even if you're the innocent party in an accident you get penalised by the insurance.

Always a bummer with a no fault claim !
£190 for our 1.6 Hdi Berlingo 2007 - wife and self with Saga
£180 for my 2.0 Litre MX5 2014 - wife and self with Saga - price guaranteed for three years no less !!!
The only benefit of getting older ^^^
Crazy that my MX5 is cheaper than a Berlingo, cheaper even than our Suzuki Alto by £15
