Sweet smell/DPF

Returning from holiday on Friday 13th had driven the length or the A2 to Gravesend when the car lost power and warning lights came on just before the service station. Pulled into service station and tried to get it going but have orange EOBD emission control system and ESP brake warning lights on. The AA towed me home and I left it alone. Monday I tried it, it started but will not rev past 2000 rpm. Tried it again this morning EOBD light on but revved freely for a short while then up came the ESP light ands revs dropped. I was very aware of a sweet sickly smell.
I wonder if the DPF filter is blocked, but have no idea why the ESP light would come on as well.
 
The car is almost 10 years old and only done 18500 miles but often gets an occasional blast on motorways.
 
 
Any ideas please?

Citroen have a 3 week wait till they will take it in..

I am going to put my money on fuel pressure sensor.

Similar thing happened to me in France in our C4GP

Turned out that number 4 injector had developed a fault, replaced and all well now.
