Intermittent non crank, please help
#1
Hi guys and girls, I’ve got a 2014 berlingo van with the 1.6 Diesel engine. Recently I’ve had a intermittent issue where it would not crank over unless you keep turn the ignition on and off. It could take a few turns of the key, up to twenty turns for it to activate the starter. It could do it once or twice in a day, and for the rest of the day be perfectly fine. When it doesn’t crank all I get is a click from glove box area. Sometimes it will come up with brake system faulty on the screen. The things I’ve done so far are as followed:

Load checked and passive checked battery health (only 1 year old),
Replaced the starter motor,
Checked and cleaned all earths,
Checked and cleaned fuses in the engine bay fuse box (especially the 25a one),
Cleaned and checked plugs in engine bay fuse box,
Cleaned plug for crank sensor.

The codes I have pulled when this happens are P1694, P0500, P1403, P1404.

I just wondered if anyone has had a similar fault and may be able to offer advice before I get a auto electrician involved. Any helps appreciated  Smile

Have you looked up the codes ? . bba-reman .com is quite good .

The last 2 are related to the EGR valve . Try unplugging it and see what happens . I had trouble with a ford (same engine ) which wouldn't start until the egr was unplugged

The other two are related to the speed sensor and maybe the air mass sensor.

Check the relays in the fuse box area

Thanks for the reply. Did you car crank when you had the egr fault? It runs absolutely sweet as a nut when it’s running and doesn’t throw any of them codes during operation. Them codes only get thrown when it doesn’t turn over. I have a feeling it may be the bsm fuse box in the engine bay?
