Detecting wear in rear beam bearings

Is wear in rear beam bearings detectable by jacking up the wheel and physically heaving the wheel every which way?
I'm fifteen stone and can give it a bit of rage.
Or do the torsion bars get rusted tight and deny you any feeling of slop?

You can usually see excessive wear when the top of the wheel toes in giving negative camber.

Trouble is my optimism gets the better of me, plus my eyesight isn't what it was.

The hardest part of setting & measuring car suspensions is finding a dead flat piece of floor/ road.
There used to be a disused weighbridge in the local industrial estate, with a lorry sized, dead level piece of cast iron.
Perfect.
Unfortunately after a load of hippy squatters, it is now fenced off and not available.
Sigh.
