EGR issues.....
#1
Hi I am hoping for some advice or pointers.

a month or two ago my 1.6 hdi started pulling up a EML and the code was P0402 EGR Excessive Flow Detected.  I also started experiencing some issues keeping it started.  It would take a few goes for it not to conk out.

I bit the bullet and took it to the garage.  First thing they did was remove and replace the EGR valve, however, the issue was still there albeit intermittently and the EML doesnt always come on.  So then they replaced the fuel filter and then the fuel rail pressure sensor.

The garage have had the van for quite sometime. we thought the fuel rail pressure sensor had solved the issue....  I have had the van back a few days and the EML is back on with the same EGR fault.  I am loathed to keep chucking money at this thing as it is costing me a fortune without any obvious way forward.

I have read about possibly replacing the DPFE sensor, but I am not sure if this is the same as the fuel pressure filter ?

Hope someone has experience and can help.

It may be your MAF sensor that's not registering enough airflow. I'm not sure about the B9 so others will need to advise, but on the M59 1.6, you can experiment by blanking the EGR valve to see if that changes the symptoms.

Sounds logical, I will give that a try, thank you.

Any new EGR valve needs to be recoded/recalibrated in the ECU with Diagbox/Lexia, otherwise this would not work very well. You should ask the garage if they have done it.
