Vibrating at motorway speed
#1
Hi I have a 11 Multispace. There is a vibration coming through the steering and comes in about 50mph and goes out of the steering about 70 but can still feel it through the set.
It only came in the van one day.
Have change ball Joints the long drive shaft cos there was play in it
Front discs and a passenger caliper. Rear pads to.
Got my wheels balance and then got them recheck and wheels or not bent
Only thing I can think of it’s the other drive shaft. Looks like th boot has been replaced before. Don’t look bent or has anything play in it. Out of ideas now and it’s very annoying has I’m doing 85 miles a day on motorway to work and back.
Any help would be appreciated

Was also going to fit the smaller drive shaft it’s the only thing I can think of.

Maybe try swapping the wheels front to back - one of your tyres may have a 'blister' coming which may not show up on balancing - if the tread is de-laminating it may bulge up/out due to centrifugal force. Have you clouted a kerb or driven up on a kerb recently?

Thank you for the reply
I have done that and jack it up and ran the wheels through from 10mph right up till 70 and nothing I can see. Definitely a strange one now.

A possibility might be a wheel bearing - not easy to feel for play as the drive shaft is holding everything together. Only when the shaft is out can you then feel for play/roughness and when you've got that far it is almost easier to replace the bearings (but the old ones will need to be pressed out). The wear on one of mine showed up as the brake squealed a little when cornering, presumably due to the disc tilting...but there was no vibration....

Might be a drive shaft joint worn and gone out of balance I guess. Renault Extra vans were bad for that with vibration coming through the seat. With that vibration was worse with power on

Do you mean the vibration has only occurred on one occasion ??

If that is the case I'd sit back and relax, wait for any further developments if any.

Maybe you picked up something on the tyre and it has gone now.
