[Transmission] Stiff Gearbox Forks
#1
Hi Guys,

I have my gearbox out of my 52 plate berlino multipace 1.9D the gearbox fork is very stiff. I have tried soaking the pins (in WD40) thats located into the plastic bushes mounted in the gear box and have been working it back and forth trying to free them off. Its a little more free but still stiff and squeaking. Has anyone removed the forks before and if so how did you do it?

Help would be much appreciated ? .

Thanks

David

I have saw this kit - but would have to wait for it to arrive https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/topran/273...jgQAvD_BwE Might be the best fix though rather than trying to free it off.

I guess you are in fact talking about the clutch release fork. A word of caution, WD40 is bad for plastic bushes as it causes them to swell over time.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your reply. That's correct the clutch release fork. Lots of other resources say its safe for use on plastic bushes but I have no experience so will take your word for it. I needed something to penetrate the corrosion. It is freeing off but have ordered the new fork kit. I would like to strip, clean and reinstall but most other sites I have looked at ( for Fiat 500 for example) the bushes are destroyed in the process of removing them.

That should not be a problem as I believe new bushes are supplied in the kit.

Simplest thing is to fit a new shaft bushes and arm, any damage removing the old stuff doesn't matter.

Something in my memory tells me the arm securing pin is tapered ??? With M7 thread ???

If so the threaded end of the pin is the smallest end and you want to drive it out from that end.
