Hi
A good friend of mine has had intermittent engine management light on his 2012 1.6Hdi ...just been diagnosed by his main dealer as "Turbo Electrovalve" and quoted a substantial £670 to repair it.
Anyone experienced this can advise/help on any options pls?
Thanks

My advice would be to buy a Streetwise OBDII car scanner or something similar. See if you can get fault codes relevant to problem. The turbo actuator and the electronic valve that actuate it are in the region of £90 each. Quite easy to fit if this is what the dealer is on about. Nothing other than these two items are immediately connected to turbo. £670 seems a lot but without more detailed information it’s hard to say. Find out the actual price of the part and some more detail of labour price.

As above, sounds like a lot of money to me & fault codes would be helpful.
Can you confirm if it's 8 or 16v & what bhp, if it has a dpf? The letters from the VIN or putting the reg into Opie Oils will probably give most of that detail. Some engines have a VNT turbo, hence the question.

Good tip re Opie site, thanks. Here's what I found:
Citroen Berlingo Multispace
Year:
2013
Type:
1.6 HDi 90
Engine:
1560cc 68KW 92HP 9HJ (DV6DTEDM);9HP (DV6DTED
I don't know if it has a DPF (and I suspect the owner wont either!).
Does this give enough for further advice?
Many thanks.

The 90BHP engine probably has a standard turbo with a vacuum activated waste-gate to control the boost. The vacuum is controlled via a solenoid valve, I'm guessing the valve is at fault, or perhaps the tube from the valve to the turbo, or the actuator itself. The vacuum also drives the brake servo, so if there was a vacuum problem it would show elsewhere.
Next step should be to get an OBD-II code reader with Bluetooth so that you can see what error codes there are and also get some measurements via an app like Torque for turbo boost, airflow etc.
There are loads of threads on here about the turbo, so a bit of surfing would probably help. I'm not sure if the DPF makes any difference, but it's possible to work out if the engine has a DPF via the VIN. There are posts about that on here too.

DV6DTED is same engine as mine. Has DPF and is set up as Cancunia described. It sounds as though there is not to much knowledge of the vehicle and mechanics in general apologies if this is not the case. If it is I suggest you get a more detailed description of what you get for £670 and see if it tallies with what we have said, or go to someone else and get a second opinion. I know my local garage will put it on a diagnostic machine for £30 and see what the result is what the fault codes are and if they can offer a price to fix.
Many thanks.

This is very close to my engine 9HX, although 2007 1.6HDi model. If they replace the whole turbo, then ~£600 is a very fair price. Just the parts are ~£300 DIY style for the non-VNT turbo. On the turbo itself there are numbers, if you take a picture or try to read them, then you can figure if it is the VNT or the non-VNT one. It is a small square number plate on the turbine side, stamped on the alluminium part.
