total clearnox
#1
Hi,
Does anyone use Clearnox Total instead of conventional adblue? I've read that it prevents crystallization and consequently hefty sums of money to repair the car.

Seems no-one here has used it (I haven't).  The info that Total provides (https://services.totalenergies.uk/news/c...l-additive) is a bit confusing - they state that "CLEARNOX replaces AdBlue", but also "Formulated with AdBlue, CLEARNOX works more effectively than AdBlue alone", so I'm guessing it's an Adblue product but with something else added?  The text also says that Clearnox "is ready to use - no need to drain the tank first", but then a bit further down says "for optimal SCR system operation, it should always be used after the system has been cleaned at a certified auto repair centre". So that's clear then, lol.

Have you tried contacting Citroen about it?  They used to recommend Total oil (might still do?), so should have some knowledge. I'd write to them - if Citroen don't recommend it, there might be warranty issues if you use it.

Thanks for answering. I've read that some people are having problems with adblue, the message to top up doesn't disappear even when the deposit is full. I read in a blog that this is due to crystallization and that the use o clearnox and admax could solve this problem, but as you said there could be warranty issues... it's better to wait and use it only if you have issues with adblue and the warranty has expired.

One of our K9 Berlingos has just had an engine fault / AdBlue message on the screen. Apparently there was nothing wrong with it. They updated the ECU software and the message disappeared.

Hi! Did the sofware update solve the problem permanently? Did the message appear again?

Now that you mentioned it: the one I was talking about is still working fine. Another one gave the same error and the dealer replaced the AdBlue tank.

I’ve had my vans ecu reflashed to cure an adblue fault, a month later at 86k miles they fitted a complete adblue tank.
Seems a common fault ..
