Doing such horrible things to that nice, old M49 is just inexcusable.
It did beat the Jeep, though, but I guess it doesn't take much to do that...
The Berlingo wasn't even a 4WD version.

I'm guessing the M49 was probably heading toward scrappage anyway - all that white smoke, the engine looked filthy, no bonnet (unless that's deliberate - what's all that green hose?), no passenger doorlock....

The green hose looked like a homemade snorkel, to make it able to handle deeper water than normal.
You should see my engine...
Or not. Don't want to be banned from this forum for posting NSFW pictures.
Just because a car is headed towards the scrapper doesn't mean you should drive that reckless. There could have been hours more of tearing up fields with it or other fun if they hadn't destroyed the radiator.
Besides, the M49 is a CLASSIC! And the best looking of the entire series!

Not long after I'd bought my M49, the facelifted M59 came out, and I remember thinking I wish I could have waited longer before buying, and bought one of those instead. But now, I prefer the look of the M49! At the moment my favourite looks-wise is the K9 - the van, not the MPV - which to my eyes is a very smart looking vehicle. I place the M49 second after that.
I think there's probably a few too many M49s still knocking around for people in general to see them as something to be saved. That's the way with everyday kinda cars - people take them for granted and then suddenly realise there are hardly any left. There's a classic car show here in the UK specially for that kind of vehicle - the Festival of the Unexceptional - though even there the M49 isn't rare enough to gain appreciation yet (I went this year in my M49 - not as an entrant in the show, just as a spectator - but even so, one of the youtube videos of the show questioned why it was there. My M49 got dissed! Lol.)

It was probably a 1.9, a 2.0 Hdi would have romped it.
So where does this bit go then ?
