I have some questions as a newbie
#1
Hello all

I have bought a Berlingo and it is a B9 version. Have had it for just two weeks and am in the process of turning the back into a no-build camper for 6 months, before hopefully making something more substantial next spring with extruded aluminium. From January of next year, I hope to create a YouTube channel with videos of my adventures, both what I am doing to 'Betty' to improve her and my trips. My channel will be called A Mandarin Wonderland.

This is my first time using a forum as well as being a novice in many other areas too... I am female, so I am fully aware that there are lots I know I don't know, so please forgive my ignorance and any stupid questions in advance.  Big Grin

My vehicle, according to Haynes, is a Berlingo II estate (B9) Phase I 5D, petrol 1.6.

Have a few questions, that I hope members will be able to help me with, please?

1. At the B pillar, in the roof, are three plastic discs. When removed, I think there is a hole to screw in something. I am wanting to use these to screw in rare earth magnets that will hold a curtain rail, to separate the front from the back, so I can camp stealthily. I need to know what size screws or bolts to buy. Can anyone please tell me what I should be buying?

2. My central LCD is B9, however a YouTube video I came across, they changed it rather simply (famous last words) to a second-hand one from a Peugeot 207, code 9664336280 and wondering whether there is a better option to get more functionality? The video upgraded it in order to get a parking sensor installed. There was mention of something to do with Bluetooth (that part number did NOT have Bluetooth) and reprogramming via Diagbox. What is Diagbox? I am considering asking Halfords to fit a parking sensor when they install my dashcams if I can manage to change to a different LCD myself. What are your thoughts?

3. My first 2 weeks with the car, I was just pottering around as I was on holiday. Now back at work, she seems quite thirsty, my daily commute is 20 miles each way, with a fair portion being on a dual carriageway. I would have thought that cars would be more economical at 50-60 miles an hour, however, she seems to be drinking petrol at a great rate of knots. Is there something I should be looking at to get a better MPG?

4. At what mileage should I get the cam belt changed? Currently around 68K miles on the clock.

5. Anything else I should be aware of, any hints and tips?

Many thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and I look forward to many years and adventures with "Betty Berlingo".

Kind regards Amanda

Hello Amanda,

Regarding # 4.
There are two 1.6 petrol engines. One is older (and better) with a timing belt, the other is newer with a timing chain that should not be replaced every period of time, unless there are issues with it.

Look at the VIN number of the vehicle, positions 6-8 is the engine code. Post it here.

NR 2:
do not change this lcd panel. i find the older one with just simpel text is easy to read and understand.,

i would recomend to change out the cd player in this car to a Teyes cc2plus or cc3 i have cc2plus in my car. it is a 9 inch multimedia player based on android. I have had it for almost a year and i am suprer satisfied with it. On long trips i use youtube and youtube music. and other apps. if you dont have free 4g just download the movies/music.
I have also installed a rear view camera that is inserted in the brake light in the back door. so no need for reverse sensor. And it got GPS Bluetooth AM/FM. but no dab. i had to buy a dab usb stick and insert. check it out on aliexpress

Amanda ,
Post a photo on here about where you want to put your curtain rail and the removeable inserts.

Mileage in a diesel is better than a petrol, my b9 diesel does at least 48 MPG. no motorway just A roads and lesser ones, diesel fuel is dearer than petrol. Fill yours up , note mileage and run until the fuel light comes on and then check mileage against fuel used. That will give you a fair indication of how bad/good your MPG is.
