EGR cleaning 2015 berlingo
#1
Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing a gradual decline in power in my car for some time now. I'd also get a strange burning smell in the cabin whenever I'd be engine breaking. I suspected it was the injectors so I've just changed all seals on them which has slight improved the situation but while doing so i saw quite a bit of carbon build up lingering behind the EGR.
I've seen some egr cleaning videos on some older 1.6 hdi models but as I've got a bluehdi the egr is a little different...
So Has anyone attempted to take off their EGR give it a clean and put it back on? If so have you got any tips/videos/instructions on how to best get it off?

Any help would be greatly appreciated  Big Grin

I changed the egr on my 2009 1.6hdi.  Easy job.
Loosen the window wiper nuts. if the arms do not come of. push down in the joint on the arm and it will come loose, and just wiggle them off.

open the hood.
take out battery.
take out diesel filter and holder.
Take off the clips on the filt liner on the firewall.
loosen the two torx on the brake fluid.
take off the plastic trim under the window. bolts on each side of the car
remove the plasic trim/support panel between the engine and wiper arms asembly
take off the airduckt two bolts
take out airfilter box and pipes
then you have a lots of room behind the engine to take out the egr and clamp, .

And i found a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH8FS8ZTnrc

In addition, if the EGR is repaced with another one, it needs to be recalibrated with Diagbox/Lexia, otherwise it might not work correctly. The video shows the older, M59 version of the 1.6HDi, rather than the bluehdi as per the OP, unless it is the same.

I did not have to use lexia for the new part. Just swap and all is ok. On the first startup there was a lot of smoke but after a couple of minutes it was all ok.

Yes, you have been lucky that the new EGR had similar parameters of movement. Still, it is a good idea to recalibrate a new EGR.
