[Steering & Suspension] Front suspension knocking ???
#1
On my 2004 Partner. I am getting an annoying knock from front O/S, when going over bumps. Only really noticeable at low speeds. It went for MOT and tester couldn't find it. He did Comment about it. I Can't get it to happen by bouncing manually. Strangely it disappears when I put my trailer and bit of weight on the back. Any ideas please before I change bits. I am suspecting top suspension bearing and mount perhaps.

The anti-roll bar links are also prone to wear and can cause a lot of noise for their size. Cheap enough and simple to change and, if you have to take the strut out for the top bearing, can be done at the same time.

Oops I forgot to mention that I have changed the anti roll bar drop links.

Anti roll bar buses and the are a PITA as they are between the subframe and the body

Just done my roll bar bushes today - it's possible to do them without dropping the subframe.

Disconnect the roll bar drop link,
Remove the long wishbone/ARB bracket mounting bolt (and nut),
Wiggle the ARB bracket upwards and release it's tab and remove completely,
Spray the old bush with WD40 or silicone,
Pry the bush open a bit and wiggle/slide it off the end of the ARB,

Coat the new bush in silicone grease or equivalent splay open slightly and slide into position - make sure it goes in the correct way check with the bracket before installing,
Hook the ARB bracket tab into its slot on the subframe,
Use a deep reach g-clamp or equivalent on the edge of the bracket to close the bracket around the new bush,
Reinstall the wishbone bolt, nut and drop link.

Do one side at a time.
