A lot of lights!

Jumped into the van this morning to see the triangle with the exclamation mark light, so thought I'd get it checked after work... ffwd to 2pm and I try to start the van and get a clicking noise with the rev/fuel/temp/and speedometer all jumping up and down, then when I turn the ignition key 1 clickon I'm getting nearly all the lights coming up, so I left it 10 minutes, and it is just the EML and I'm being told it is now in economy mode.

Can anyone give me an idea of what is happening? I am fairly new to the berlingo and haven't the foggiest.

Turned out to be the alternator.
