Problem with lights

I think only the DAV com2000 units used a somewhat softer plastic for their end points for the stalks, which at the end put them out of business. PSA replaced DAV with Delphi in subsequent vehicles and the end point plastic bits are pretty sturdy.
I thought that all M59 modes have the Delphi ones, but if that M59 model is on the older side it could well be a DAV one, which suffered a lot with the wobbly stalks, random headlights/indicators.

Apologies for the delay in reply. No, all the switches are good and firm. All working until layup.

Many thanks to  all for the suggestions.  Apologies for the delay in response but I managed to but my back out  taking the column cowls off (I am  sure I used to be more supple).   I have now used Contact Cleaner and exercised all the functions with no improvement.   I have looked through the threads and have come to the conclusion that the problem is probably an earth. Various threads suggest behind the headlights or near the interior light.  Before I clean anything that looks like an earth, where, exactly,  should I look?

Did you manage with the cowling off to see what type of COM unit you have? Different types of COM units have different fixes/problems. There should be a sticker on top of the unit, under the top cowling.

No indication of manufacturer but part number on label is *96574708XT*.  Other markings are (as they appear)
122754 14
96574 708XT
and
07 02 05
01 H
The 07 02 05 intrigues me as this looks like a date and this is a 03 car.

I cannot quite work out the part number and which exactly com unit is that. One of the numbers should be the date and yours seems a bit weird being newer than the car. It could be that someone replaced it already and it was not a perfect match, maybe.

I had a dodgy stalk in one of these (COM2005 Delphi the newer version), headlights turning randomly on, well not randomly as if I were to wiggle the stalk the headlights turn on. It was not the usual DAF unit and the end plastic bit did not help at all. At the end I bought a new unit (same numbers exactly) and it fixed it. Nevertheless, from time to time I do get the rear wiper turning on randomly. There is no coding of these in Diagbox/Lexia, so it could be something similar to yours. You could try with a second hand unit (something cheap) to see if that fixes it.
