Radiator/Cooling Fan not Kicking in STOP light coming on

Good evening
Apologies if there are various threads to this question. I am new to the forum and cannot find the answer anywhere on the web.

I recently bought a 2005 Berlingo Multispace 1.6 petrol (rear seat version). I drove it for a couple of days and it was overheating, the fan was not kicking in and the Stop light on the dash coming on, I went to park it up and the stop light was on, but I didn't turn the engine off in time, the radiator burst all coolant out from the bottom. 

Long story short, as it had been stood for a couple of years, I replaced radiator and cooling fan and shroud, refilled with anti freeze and water and started it back up, to see if it had rectified issue. It hadn't, dash STOP light still coming on as temp gauge goes sky rocketing and fan still not kicking in, so I feel like I am left with an electrics issue, but what do I check. The fuse (number 8 - 20v) looks fine. Could it be the relay? Is there a sensor on it that should kick in the fan once the temp reaches a certain level? Any help from all you clever berlingo people would be much appreciated.

High probability that you haven't bled the air out of the cooling system. Bleed points normally at the bulkhead where the heater pipe attachment is, and at the thermostat housing. The big air locks are quite hard to shift and whilst they are there the overheating is likely.
Also consider symptoms of head gasket failure as you had the problem from the start.

Thanks for both responses although I don't think that is the thing.
Oilyrag - the issue was there before replacement of the fan and radiator, when we replaced them, we made sure all air bubbles out by running the car with the header tank open. Then we got the car warmed up and exactly the same issue occurred, the fan didn't kick in when the car got hot?

Brodfather11 - thanks for the link, I have had a read through, but this seems to be a car with A/C and mine doesn't have that, there isn't any resistor that can be seen through the grill as we have had the radiator and fan and shroud out.

I think it may be an electrical fault between the thermostat not telling the fan it needs to start cooling the engine?

Could the relay be faulty?

Hi All

Just a quick update, took car to my local garage guy who diagnosed both of the temp sensors on the vehicle. All replaced and fan now kicking in when car get to a certain temperature, so all good.
