Rear wiper arm gone floppy
#1
Hi all.

I Bought a B9 Multispace back in August and after a bit of fettling all seems well.  However, we had a load of snow over the weekend and now my rear wiper has gone 'floppy'.  It will sort of push back into position, wipe half of the window and flop again.  I didn't use the rear wipe at all, although it did have a pile of snow on it until I carefully cleared it.

Can anyone suggest what might have happened?  Is a new arm the best bet?

Thanks in anticipation.

Dont go by the views , internet bots are viewing everything.

It may be that the securing nut is loose. It sits behind the centre plug, pop that out and check if the nut is tight.

Can you move the arm without the motor running ?, take the arm off and see if the splined drive spindle is secure enough. It should not move unless the motor is turning, if so the splines inside the arm are worn or the spindle where it fits is loose.

The plastic on the wiper arm is fused with a metal ring that goes on a spindle which then goes inside the body of the car. Frequently the plastic splits at the very end of the wiper arm leaving you with a floppy wiper arm. A new whole wiper arm should fix it. Sometimes the metal ring is fused with the spindle, so it may need cutting out. That is what I did with mine, there was no chance of removing it without cutting it.
To avoid another plastic split with the new wiper am, do not put the metal ring too tight on the spindle, do not go crazy on the nut as well.

Thank you.  The arm itself was broken, so I removed it.  You were quite right about the metal ring which has fused to the spindle, leaving something akin to a knurled nut on the spindle.  I will indeed have to break out the trusty Dremel style too and cut it off.

Thanks again for the help.
