1.5 hdi 130hp rattling sound
#1
My Berlingo developed strange rattle. Sounds almost like something got loose. Any ideas? Here's a short video. Sound appears once the engine heats up a bit, but is most noticeable on cold mornings

Sounds like a ball race - could be the aux belt idler or alternator itself, both of which can be eliminated if the engine is run with belt off. I'd lean towards idler, but then again ...it's only an opinion. The cold morings would load the alternator more after a start up.
Also try depressing the clutch and see f the noise changes/disappears - which might indicate clutch release mechanism.
Good luck!

These are great ideas, thanks!
Rattle is not connected with position of the clutch pedal, i've already tried that.  I'll probably mentioned that rattle on my next garage appointment (currently waiting for a new adblue nozzle, pump seems to be working, but I am constantly getting that dreaded emission fault warning light).

Not exactly happy with the quality of the car... :S

This really sounds like a heatshield or some plastic touching something else rather than engine/clutch noise, might be wrong though. With the engine running I would hold various bits of the engine to see if it gets dampened or disappears. Worth a try, but careful with moving parts, belts, etc. :-)

Went to garage this morning to replace the adblue nozzle. I asked the technician about the rattling sound and he said it's the AC compressor sound. During colder months compressor only occasionally starts in order to increase the system pressure. Rattling sound seems to appear while idle, and is, as expected a lot more audible during winter. Not a bug, a feature Big Grin

That’s so funny I’ve had exactly the same problem but my belt tensioners were worn the next day on a cold morning I started my car and thought what the hell is that noise and it is the ac lol
