Towbar wiring 2004 multispace

Good morning.

I have a 2004 berlingo. I picked up a used towbar at the weekend which I would like to fit.

Can anyone talk me through the wiring steps for the light board socket please. I am unsure if I have a canbus system, or need a wiring kit, or a bypass relay. The last time I wired one up, I just patched into the cabling at the rear light cluster. Any help gratefully accepted.

Mine is just wired in as you say by splicing into the wires. It was already fitted when I bought the car so I can't say how it was done but it has been fine for towing all the years I have had the car, 2003 2.0hdi. I don't think the canbus and bulb out warnings came in till later models.

Witter appear to do a kit with all you need, plus bulb-out warning for a reasonable price

Well, by the time you've gathered the bits you need it probably won't be any cheaper and you'll get a wiring diagram too - you can't simply add additional load to the indicator/hazard lights as it will affect the flashing rate. Also, possibly for the MoT now in the UK it may be a requirement for the warning system?
