2009 error codes
#1
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, thanks for any help you can offer.
I have a 2009  hdi van.
I had a couple of young dogs in the back who chewed through the wiring to the offside rear. This was a complete mess so I soldered in a harness from an older Berlingo. There was a circuit board in the original which isn't in my donor wiring,
When the wiring was damaged it was blowing the dashboard fuse. After repair I have all lights working at the back and the fuse doesn't blow.

The problem now is I have no headlights or dip (only a flash), no wipers and no radio. These were all working before I did the repair!

Permanent faults which I can't erase are;
0601 Communication fault with the switch module at the steering wheel ECU
0A04 Boot opening control

Can anyone shed any light please?

I'd guess when the wires were chewed they have shorted and damaged the COM2000 ECU which interfaces the steering wheel & column controls to the BSI module (Body ECU) and this is now faulted. The electronics in the B9 are really complex and can be damaged by wiring faults.

Worse still, the BSI itself could have been damaged too, hard to say. The BSI can't be swapped easily as they are coded to the engine ECU & Immobiliser module. There are specialists about who can recode a used unit but it has to be the exact same level of equipment, matching numbers etc. The COM2000 module is not coded so can be swapped out, again should be exactly matching part numbers.

Minefield btw.

Thanks Zion, that all adds up. I was able to erase a fault on the BSI. Does that mean the BSI hasn't been long term damaged?

Could be. I'd try pulling a com2000 module from a scrapper, swap it and see if all codes can be cleared. The comm unit is the only part not needing coding to another vehicle. Once the steering wheel is off, you'll see how the com unit and stalks comes off. Pick the same layout of stalks as you already have and it should be a straight swap.

The airbag is a press clip to release, turn the steering towards the window and look for a hole, push a thin screw driver into it with slight pressure on the airbag and it comes off easily.
