[Brakes] Bleeding Brakes. (again)
#1
Hi Berlingo Buffs!
New member her and first time of writing to the group. There has been alot of postings on bleeding the braking system . My latest Berlingo is a Sept 2007 M59 model, high mileage but runs so smoothly. Ive just bought it and think that the brakes were not as responsive as my last Berlingo, so Ive fitted new disc's and pads as well as new drums and shoes. I thought whilst I'm at it I will change the brake fluid. That was my mistake. Can I heck bleed it ! Ive used 500mls of new fluid. The front seemed to be ok, its the N\S\R thats giving me a hard time. Somebody on here said that the modulation valve was shut and the spring was broken. Ive bought a Haines manual but can't find anything about this mod/valve. Ive got a new master cylinder on order should be here Wednesday. Can anybody give me a clue where I'm going wrong please.
My Berlingo is an MV59, 2007 HDI 1600 Diesel

Thanks Cancunia for your reply. I took it that valve they were talking about was for the handbrake.
The problem that I have is not being able to get rid of the air.
I bled the system for at least an hour yesterday and still, no brake pedal and new fluid coming out
of the nipple but it was full of air. Where on earth is it coming from ?

Are you using something like an Eezibleed - mine needs the continuous push of that to expel all of the air. Manual bleeding doesn't move enough fluid to push bubbles past any uphill parts of the system. If the master cylinder has not been disturbed for some time then using the pedal to full stroke may shift some muck or damage a seal.

Thanks all you guy's. I had some pm's as well !
As Oilyrag (above) suggested, an he was spot on, Bleeding a berlingo brake system is near impossible
using the two man method. (well it was for me)
I trotted off to Halfords this morning, and bought myself a Gunson's easybleed set. What a brilliant invention. Within 1/2 Hr, all brakes bled on my own and a superb pedal. Thanks again for the advice given.

When finished with the lit it's worth rolling up a couple of paper towels and putting/leaving them inside the emptied bleeder reservoir. Also clean the tin cap really thoroughly and coat with grease or WD40 as it will rust very quickly due to the fluid absorbing moisture. With that done, it will last a lifetime.
For anyone who has found the tin lid rusted - the power steering reservoir cap is a correct fit - drill a suitable home in it and then plug it afterwards to put it back into use.
