Brake pads

I've got an '04 2.0 hdi M59 van .
I see there are a few different brake pads listed for this vehicle -how do I know which ones I need ?

I think that I wrote a post about this some time ago, a search should show something but it was a few years ago so might take a bit of finding.
You could also look on catcar.info it should show the correct part numbers based on your VIN.

You could also take off the wheel and measure the height and length of the pads already on the car. You do not need to get the caliper off. Width would be less on the old ones of course ;-), so that does not matter.
Then you would be certain the new ones will fit.

When you say there are a few different pads listed, do you mean different shapes and sizes? Because it is quite normal to find various different pads listed for any vehicle, normally based on quality and I would usually choose a mid-priced set and steer clear of any cheap ones.

There are different makes of caliper on the Berlingos, I think Lucas & Girling were 2 of them. They have different methods of retaining the pads. It is possible to tell them apart, I've forgotten how but I'm fairly sure that I posted the difference between them at some point.
catcar.info will list the part numbers for a particular VIN and perhaps the make of the calipers too.

For the earlier models there were two different makes of caliper , Lucas and Bendix, with different pads. The Lucas ones on mine have a wire spring arrangement held with a rivet on the central 'lug' of the caliper, and some have wear sensor cables attached - I always chop these off as there's nothing for them to plug in to. Maybe have a look at the caliper for make symbol in the casting face.

Sorry, meant Bosch, but fingers wrote Bendix. Also ventilated discs don't use same pads as non-ventilated. I think the Girling mentioned above are the Lucas ones, as Lucas took over Girling some years ago.
