1 litre of oil in 1000 miles?
#1
Afternoon Chaps,

Probably fine and acceptable before I go shouting and screaming at Citroen but on my way into work this morning i had the low oil warning come up.

Managed to grab some oil from another dealership only to find my engine has gone through a litre of oil in the first 1000 miles - not something i have had before with my other berlingos. the only difference this is the 1.5 130ps engine and not the 1.6 as per my previous vans.

I'll give the service department a call but otherwise will just monitor it and see if it continues to drink it.

None of my previous 4 Berlingos have used oil like that, even when new. My new factory engine recently fitted has developed a severe oil leak from the front of the sump behind the dpf.
Not saying yours has the same but it’s worth checking.
Citroen have now told the dealer to remove the gearbox to check something . Before they authorise either a second new engine or replacement of the sump seal.
Just a thought….

Did you notice any oil on after being parked up or did it manage to stay in the undertray?

I'm not seeing oil on the driveway or outside my workshop so i would think mine is burning it - obviously wont see blue smoke due to the DPF I would have thought?

The only thing I will say is all my starts this year have been below freezing and within a few minutes i am on an A road doing 50 mph - but the engine has had time run up while on the driveway defrosting the window.

A few years ago I read that diesel engines have particularly extreme temperature differences within them when starting in cold conditions (I guess due to the method of ignition?), but I'd be surprised if just trundling along at 50mph would cause any problems in a modern vehicle.  (Though what I read has made me avoid driving up steep hills when my vehicles are really cold).

No oil was seen to be dropped, engine was only a week old! No undertray fitted to my van .
It went back to the dealer for other work and I was surprised to hear that it had a bad oil leak and shouldn’t be driven.
Could there be a leaky seal on the turbo causing oil burning, I would imagine a faulty piston ring unlikely … maybe get it back to the dealer asap?

Mine had a leak just before Christmas and turn out to be a faulty copper washer on the drain plug. I didn't notice any oil on the driveway either.

Given the high price of slightly used these days, flog it and start again?
