I Just got a multispace 2.0hdi, 2005. Has some issues and I paid more than I should’ve. But I wanted it.
Had one years ago and was the best, most reliable and versatile car I ever had. Now bought this old one after making do with an xsara then a Skoda.
Now I need to sort a slow starter, floppy gearstick, seized spare wheel bracket, noisy wheel bearing, broken wing mirror, defunct glow plugs and dash illum bulbs. And needing to fit a tow bar.
Oh well..

I had the spare wheel problem when I first got our car. I sorted it by jacking the carrier up with a trolley jack and forcing the hook off then plenty of penetrating oil and once it moves keep it greased
So where does this bit go then ?

£200 sounds good to me. Mechanic is going to do the wheel bearing and front brakes for £250. The rest I’ll do myself.. with help from YouTube and info found on here.
Glow plug actually works- just found out it has to be cold. Came on for about 1 sec this frosty morning. So need to research this further.
Parts are ordered, tool box ready.
If it ain’t broke, i ain’t gonna touch it!

The dash glow plug light is a poor indicator of what the glow plugs are doing.
The glow plugs normally come on for a pre heat prior to starting when the temperature is around 7℃ or lower., once the engine is started they stay on for around 3 minutes (post heat) to aid smooth running and help reduce emissions until the engine warms up a bit.

Thanks- that’s helpful to know. My engine turns too slow on the key. After spinning for a few seconds it speeds up a bit and then it will start. Put a new battery in and checked the earth strap. But I’ll test the plugs first to see if they’re actually working. And if they are, a new starter may be the next step.

A slow starter which gets quicker is almost certainly the starter brushes if the battery is in good condition. It was the first thing that I had to fix on my 2.0. Choices are changing the brushes or a new starter motor. There are a lot of posts on here about uprated starters. I put a new set of brushes in mine, cleaned the commutator & never had any problems after. There's a good video about it on YouTube somewhere. I think the cost differences were about £20 vs £80 but it was a while ago.
