Diagnostic help
#1
I get a engine warning notice on the radio screen with an orange warning triangle on the dash board , roughly every fifth start
I took it to a garage and they couldn’t get to the bottom of it
They suggested a main dealer, so I’ve booked it in for next month , the earliest they could manage
The scan is 129 quid!
I’ve been reading about getting my own diagnostic tools
I have a 2018 berlingo , the blue model
I have a faulty note book computer , im thinking of getting it repaired and getting a suitable windows
to allow the diagnostic to work
Any help appreciated

Search "Diagbox" on here or in Google and read some of the threads. It's powerful and the only way to really do a lot of stuff on a Berlingo but is not for the feint hearted. No other software can do what Diagbox can.

What does the display message say?

Hmm ok that's a bit vague huh. First even a basic OBD scanner would be better than nowt and way cheaper than the garage wants for one scan.

Get on eBay or Amazon and get the Bluetooth Carista OBD reader, £24 and works really well on Citroen but don't get their own app, use "Torque" off the Google app store. Scan it for codes with ignition on, engine not running. Post up the codes and we can try to help.

Hi Zion

I just looked at the Carista and it clearly says it does not support Citroen vehicles. Is there a Citroen specific model?

The Carista app is rubbish and as you say, no Citroen support (works great on Audi's) BUT their OBD adaptor is inexpensive and very very good. Just link it to your phone and use the Torque app from the Google app store, selecting the Carista adapter in the settings for the interface.

Any good ELM327 should work but there are so many Chinese clones about it's hard to tell which are good and which aren't. I had Carista when I had the Audi and when I traded it in to buy the B9 van, I found the adaptor was one of the few which worked well on it. I was disappointed Caristas app didn't support Citroen but no great loss. Other apps work fine.

Another one I know works is the VGate iCar one on eBay / Amazon. Again, use the Torque app with it. Pretty cheap and very good

As Zion says, the best tool for scanning will be Diagbox, with a second best being a good OBD scanner & app. Diagbox is probably what the dealer will use and charge you the £129 for. There are some differences on the most recent vehicles, with a lot of diagnostic tools relying on direct online connection to the manufacturers, maybe the dealer will also be having to pay for that.
The problem with OBD scanners is that they give generic codes, but that's often all that's needed to diagnose a problem. Diagbox will give a much more detailed diagnosis.
If it were me, I'd start with the OBD scanner. Mine cost about £5, but it's a bit of a lottery as to which ones are reliable.

I’ve tried a friends scanner , this won’t show any faults
The garage couldn’t make sense of what he found either
Frustrating in the long run , having to go to main dealer for what could be a minor fault , and they can’t fit me in until the sixteenth , that could be a long wait , if the van wasn’t running
I have a hp notebook that’s crap for memory, does the diagbox require much memory?
I’ve read through so many threads, something about it not working on windows 10 etc

It only works well with (or is intended for) Windows 7 x 32 bit. I expect 4GB to be plenty but I've run it on a little Samsung notebook with 2GB and it worked fine.

You can buy v7.83 from eBay with the interface, but when patching the upgrades, stop at v7.62 from memory as it's the best version for features and customisation. The 7.83 package starts at 7.01 and you patch it up to the version you need from the files supplied. After each patch, reboot and run the software, let it do it's update and then add next patch and repeat till you get to V7.62 then stop patching.

MUST Have no internet connection what so ever during installation AND when running it.

Or it will stop working - Citroen will brick the activation hack if it manages to call home...

Thanks Zion your help is really appreciated
My notebook only has 2g I think
I’m going to get it repaired and add windows 7 instead of the 10 provided
I’ll get the kit off eBay
So when it arrives I download it to the pc and add patches with internet on?
But when using make sure it’s off?
I’m hoping this work as I’m hoping to keep the van and usually do repairs myself up to a point
I’m frigging shite with computers though
